Leading

Leading is the vertical space between lines of type. Named after lead strips in letterpress printing, it maps directly to CSS line-height — the ratio or length between baselines.

Why it matters

Line height is invisible until it is wrong. Body text below 1.5 feels cramped; above 1.75, lines disconnect. Leading controls vertical rhythm and how hard the eye works on multiline paragraphs.
